In 1919 Pierre-Auguste Renoir passed away in Cagnes-sur-Mer, a small town located in the center of the French Riviera. Almost four decades later, his great-grandson, Pierre Roland Renoir, was born on July 16th 1958, in the Principality of Monaco. Pierre discovered his artistic talents at a very young age. At 15, he began working onto metallic plates using the dry-point engraving technique under the direction of Mr. Henri Baviera, Master engraver in St. Paul de Vence, a picturesque Mediterranean village and a favorite place to many renowned artists, past and present.
Pierre and his family emigrated to Canada in 1978. He organized his first Art exhibition in Edmonton, capital city of the Province of Alberta in 1981. Encouraged by the response and enthusiasm of the public, Pierre increased his showings throughout Canada, the United States and Europe. After many travels between Europe and America, Pierre settled down in Edmonton where, after a hiatus of a few years following a difficult divorce, he resumed his artistic career with a renewed motivation.
"I am not an Art expert nor an Art historian, and I will gladly leave the critics to the Art critics" Pierre explains. "Too often they are more interested by the 'how's' and the 'whys' than by the work of Art itself... I am only an Art lover, I am following a passion which I would like to share with many; my only pretension is a love for the beautiful things in the midst of which I had the privilege to have been raised." Art is for everyone, Art is as unique as one's taste, you must simply acquire a piece of Art because you are in love with it, and for no other reason.
